Events in Harlow: Fairtrade Fortnight
(23rd Feb. to 8th March 2009)

Harlow Council and the Fairtrade Town Group
supported the National Fairtrade Fortnight Campaign (23rd Feb. to
8th March 2009) by running a number of events in Harlow during the
two week long period. The photograph shows Harlow Council

Fair-trade Poster
Competition
The standard of entries was very
high.
Harlow Junior Schools and Harlow Council
Saturday Art Club were asked to design a poster promoting
Fair-trade products. The closing date was 13th
February 2009. The winners for this competition are listed
below along with their prizes.

The winning entry was Romana Tunkr of St Lukes
Catholic School.
Saturday Art Club.
The winning entry was by Ella and Sophie
Dalley
All winners will receive a certificate as well
as a bag of ethically traded goodies. Their winning posters
will also be used in future campaigns. In addition Romana
Tunkr also wins the Fair-trade Junior Ethletic Footballs for her
school. A special mention also went to several children in
the art club. They all received a certificate and a bar of
Green & Blacks chocolate.

Fair-trade Coffee Break
Challenge which was open to all Harlow Council Staff and
Members. The closing date was 8th March 2009.
The winners of this competition were
Amanda Boon, Amanda Lucas and Marina Sherriff.
Each wins a 250g bag of Starbucks Fair-trade
Estima Coffee beans. Starbucks are offered to grind the beans
free in store. (Starbucks in located within Sainsbury’s).
The Banana Eating
Challenge.
This challenge took place on Friday
6th March 2009. This event was very
popular with a lot of staff taking part.
A total of 45 bananas were eaten by Harlow
Council Staff and Members.
Fair-trade Trail.
Closing date was 9th March. The winning entries
were judged the week commencing 23rd March. The
winner received a bag of Fairtrade goodies donated by
The Co-operative membership. Follow this link to see the

All entrants who brought a completed map
into Starbucks located at Sainsburys Harlow during
Fairtrade Fortnight could claim a free cup of their own
Fairtrade brand Estima coffee, a free Fairtrade cake and a bag of
Estima coffee beans (ground on site to the customer’s taste if they
do not have their own grinder). These products were
all donated by Starbucks to support Fairtrade
fortnight.
