Tenant Services Authority (TSA) - Your chance to have your say about standards in social housing

Harlow Council is working very hard to try and spread awareness of the Tenant Service Authority and their importance to you.  Please find listed information about the Tenant Service Authority, why they are important to you and at what stage is Tenant Service Authority at now.

Who are we and why are we important to you?

The TSA otherwise know as the Tenant Service Authority was formally launched on 1st December 2008.  We are the new independent regulator of Social Housing and responsible for promoting and delivering the interests of Social Housing Tenants living in England.

We, the Tenant Service Authority have now taken over the regulation of Housing associations, and are due to regulate Local Authority housing landlords from 1st April 2010.

Our Main objective included the overseeing of the “National Conversation”, which consisted of collecting information from both existing and future Tenants, Share Owners and Housing Providers.

The First Phase of the National Conversation took place between January and March 2009.

What stage is the Tenant Service Authority at now?

We have now taken on board all the feedback received and propose “SIX STANDARDS” by wish social housing landlords will be measured. We are currently consulting on these standards and getting feedback as to what “most matters” to tenants, which include:

  1. Tenant Involvement and Empowerment and empowerment Standards
  2. A Home Standard
  3. A Tenancy Standard
  4. A Neighbourhood and Community Standard
  5.  A Value for Money Standard
  6. A Governance and Financial Viability Standard

How can I get involved and have my say?

Basically this means that we would like to know what you think of the new National Standards we have drawn up for Social Housing Landlords which are based on what Tenants and Landlords have said what they believe is important to them.

Please follow this link for the abbreviated version of the National Standards set by the Tenant Service Authority.

It is very important to have your say.  After all you are our Tenants.  Can we please request you have a read of the document containing the abbreviated version of the National Standards and let us have your thoughts, views and ideas on the questions listed below but above all have the opportunity to get involve and have your say by helping us get it right:

  • Have we identified the right issues?
  • Do you agree with the position put forward on the different issues?
  • Are there any additional issues we need to address?
  • Is there any support from the TSA that you feel we need to prepare for the New Regulatory Regime?

This exercise can be review alone or as a group, but most importantly we need to know what you think.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Your thoughts, views and ideas can be sent to tenant.relations@harlow.gov.uk, or write to us at:
