STREETS TO HOMES

Streets2Homes is the name of the charity set up to combine the work of the former Harlow Accommodation Project and the Harlow Homeless Centre, which were 2 independent charities that underwent a merger in 2005.  The merger, it was believed, was a way to take the work forward and be of most benefit to homeless people in the West Essex area with a focus upon Harlow where we are based.

Streets2Homes has achieved status as a Charitable Company (Charity Number 1121228 and Company Number 6306299) operating the only Homeless Centre in Harlow.

Homeless people are particularly hard to reach as many have special needs as a result of extended drug and alcohol abuse, suffer loss of self esteem and social exclusion as they are in poor health due to lack of nourishment and personal hygiene through street life with no access to wash / health facilities nor food.

The organisation combines a range of activities from volunteering, through advice, provision of meals and financial guarantees for clients designed to take homeless people of all ages from the streets and support them into homes as in this instance, our name will have a literal edge to it. Build self confidence through training and appropriate referrals to maximise their employability.

S2H has developed all requisite facilities and resources including a hygiene resource (Shower, wash and laundry facilities), industrial kitchen, a training suite and meeting / interview areas to work 1-1 with homeless people. The centre attracts volunteers who help out on a daily basis and homeless people are referred to us from a range of other agencies as they know that we are specialists in this field. We have good working relationships with other specialist organisations in the area so are therefore able to offer the best service possible to those in need.

THE PLACE 2Be

The Place2Be is a charity working inside schools to improve the emotional well-being of children, their families and the whole school community.

The Place2Be was established in 1994 in response to increasing concern about the extent and depth of emotional and behavioural difficulties displayed in classrooms and playgrounds. By giving children the chance to explore their problems through talking, creative work and play, we enable them to cope now and make better-informed decisions about their lives and help prevent more serious mental health and behavioural problems in later life. When children are happier and less preoccupied with problems, they find it easier to learn and so their educational chances are much enhanced.
