Harlow Council - Working for local business
Harlow Council is working hard to ensure that Harlow as a place
for business continues to improve. We are committed to
working with the business community to achieve this. In the last
year we have consulted with the business community on the
development of the Council’s Regeneration Strategy and have sought
to ensure that business priorities are reflected in it.
Harlow is one of the original new towns planned to enable
residents to work, rest and play locally; a groundbreaking
sustainable community from the beginning. Now the town faces
many new challenges & opportunities ranging from the proposed
development of Town Centre North to the identification of Harlow as
a major Growth area in close proximity to Stansted Airport.
The Council is seeking to ensure that any new development will
deliver improvements for the existing town and its
communities. We have already been successful in securing
Government funding to renew the town’s sports facilities and the
new Harlow Business Incubation Centre is taking shape at Edinburgh
Way (due for opening in late 2008). Anglia Ruskin University
is also coming to the town.
The Council will continue to work in partnership to support the
growth of Harlow’s economy and the creation of opportunities for
local people to benefit from that growth
Harlow - A Great Place to do Business
Harlow is a town with strong manufacturing and retail sectors,
and high value employment. It is now a major centre for
research and development and was the birthplace of optical fibre
communications technology. Many large national and
international businesses including GlaxoSmithKline, Raytheon, and
Nortel have chosen to locate in Harlow.
The area benefits from its proximity to the M11,
London to the South, and Cambridge to the North. It has
a vibrant diverse community, with excellent facilities, living
environment and transport connections.

Picture above: The £6.1 million new Incubation centre
(funded by DCLG & EEDA) is located at Great Eastern House,
Edinburgh Way and will assist business start-ups and
encourage business growth.
