Leah Manning Centre FAQ

 

Who runs the Centre? 

The Community Services department of Harlow Council administers the Centre.  The Council works in partnership with Essex County Council who fund the specialist daycare and West Essex Primary Care Trust, who also provide funding support for the Centre.
 
How many staff work at the Centre?
The Centre has 1 full time coordinator supported by 12 part time members of staff.
 
What is the function of the Centre?
The Centre is open form 8.30am until 5pm Monday to Friday.  It provides day care for those residents with a higher level of need as well as opportunities for social and recreational pursuits.
 
Why does the Council provide the Day Centre?
The Council is committed to improving the quality of life for all its residents. It seeks to achieve this by working in partnership to provide services for those people in the community with a higher level of need.

How do people get referred and assessed for daycare at the Centre?
All service users are referred and assessed by Essex County Council Adult Social Care.
 
What is the difference between a Day Centre and a Day Hospital?
A Day Centre plays primary a social role, with the emphasis being on interpersonal relations and participation in group activities.  It plays a monitoring role and guides people into the right service for long term care.
It offers a valuable respite facility for families.
 
Trained staff not medical personnel usually staff it.
 
A Day Hospital is a treatment setting where emphasis is on remedial action and therapy.  Once the individual has been rehabilitated than transfer to the Day Centre is often possible.
 
What activities go on in the Centre?
The Centre encourages personal and social development of individuals by providing a range of indoor games that maximize hand to eye coordination.
We hold quizzes, reminisence, recall and discussions to encourage cognitive alertness.
Special events are staged throughout the year and at Christmas for our service users.
