London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

 

activeharlow Olympic Extravaganza Taster and Showcase Day

 

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the greatest show on earth and to celebrate 1 year to the Games activeharlow are hosting an Olympics Extravaganza in order to participate in the National London 2012 Open Weekend. 

 

This event will take place on Saturday 23rd July 10am to 3pm at Mark

Hall Sport Centre and will have FREE entry and will showcase the very

best in sport, leisure, community and business within Harlow.  Children

and adults can try out or watch demonstrations of sports and activities

indoors and outdoors.  Plus there will be many club stalls, face painting,

and a bouncy castle. With Lots to try out such as Zumba, Taekwondo,

Dance, Ruggerbugs, Football, Basketball and Volleyball and many more

activities for all age groups and abilities.  The gym at Mark Hall Sports

Centre will also be hosting open sessions so anybody considering joining

can go along and try out the facilities for FREE.  Refreshments will be available and there will also be a BBQ!

 

Plus a chance to meet local Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls as well as celebrities and local emergency services.

Harlow is one of the closest Districts to where the majority of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games events will be held.  This places Harlow in a fantastic position to take advantage of the many opportunities surrounding London 2012.  Harlow Council is working with partners to ensure Harlow achieves a lasting legacy from London 2012.

 

The Council and partners are currently working towards legacy benefits such as increasing participation in sport and physical activity, promoting healthy lifestyles, employer engagement, image promotion, volunteering, training and apprenticeships, the Cultural Olympiad and Pre Games Training Camps.

 

Progress to date has included a successful application for Harlow Leisure Zone to be included in the Official Pre Games Training Camp Guide, a visit to Harlow by Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell and a successful Handover Event on 24.08.2008 which was part of national network of coordinated events and received regional press coverage.  A range of successful Cultural Olympiad events have also taken place.
