Harlow Council Equalities and Diversity
Welcome to Harlow Council’s Equalities page. This page has been
designed to inform you about Harlow Council’s commitment towards
equalities and diversity.
Harlow Council continues to make progress in implementing
policies and strategies to improve the way the Council delivers its
services to the communities in Harlow. We are working to
ensure the requirments of the Equality Act 2010 and the new
Public Sector Equality Duty which comes into force on 06 April
2011, are embedded in our services.
The Equality Act 2010 is an umbrella act that joins together
and strengthens all previous anti-discrimination
legislation. It also gives new responsibilities to
public services and extends our specific duties to cover the
protected characteristics of age, disability, gender and
transgender, religion and belief, sexual orientation, race and
ethnicity. Click on the links to see the legislation.
Previous legislation now covered by the Equality Act 2010
includes:
Our Key Documents are currently being updated in line with the
Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality
Duty. We are also carrying out new Equality Impact
Assessments. We will shortly be replacing the documents
linked below.
