Sure Start
Children’s Centres build on the Government’s
Sure Start Programme and provide outreach and family support, play
and early learning activities, health services, training and child
care for families with children under 5. They integrate all these
services in centres that act as ‘one-stop-shops’. Through the
centres families can have easy, user-friendly access to a wide
range of professionals and support services. A core staff team work
in partnership with health visitors, midwives, occupational
therapists, social care, local colleges and other training
providers, libraries, community police, job centre plus and many
more. All these services can be accessed through our centres.
Harlow Council acts as the Lead Body
for the children’s centres in Harlow, supporting the service
delivery by employing all the core staff and offering a wide range
of infrastructure support. Currently we have two large centres –
The Tree House in Staple Tye and The Meadows in Hare Street. Both
work closely with linked ‘Neighbourhood Nurseries’ – The Gateway
Nursery in Perry Road and Raindrops Nursery at The Meadows. Soon we
will be opening four more small satellite venues – at Sumners
Leisure Centre, Mark Hall Sports College, Potter Street and Burnt
Mill Schools – and hope also to form a link with Tye Green
Community Association.
Further information will provided on this page
as it becomes available.
