Environmental Health
The health and safety of everyone who
lives, works or visits the district is major responsibility for
Harlow Council.
Issues such as food safety, health and
safety at work, air quality and pollution, noise problems and
licensing of houses in multiple occupation all come within the
remit of the environmental health teams.

Food Officers inspect food businesses to
ensure they comply with food safety legislation. They also
investigate complaints about food and premises and food poisoning,
provide food safety training, advice to new business operators and
register food businesses.
Health & Safety Officers inspect
businesses to ensure they meet health and safety legislation,
investigate accidents at work and health & safety issues in the
workplace.
The Team also administers grants to improve
housing conditions; inspects domestic housing to ensure healthy
conditions; inspects industrial processes to control
pollution; and deals with drainage complaints, animal welfare
issues and pest control.
From 1st July 2007 the team will also be implementing the law
Smokefree Workplaces with advice and support as the first
options, and as a last resort, enforcement.
