Energy Efficiency
As part of its commitment to help to combat climate change, the
Council is promoting better use of energy.
This will cover a wide and growing range of activities.
Council Signs Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change
During Environment Week in June 2007 the Council signed the
Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change, that commits it doing its
work in a way that counteracts climate change. To find out
more, follow this link to the website of the Energy
Saving Trust who administer the Declaration.
Cut heating costs and get a £50 Council Tax rebate
Also during Environment Week in June 2007, the Council
launched a scheme in partnership with British Gas to encourage
private sector residents to save energy in their homes.
It offers discounted insulation work and a £50
Council Tax rebate. Click here for
information about the scheme.
What can I do?
When it comes to minimising impact on the world, which
overlaps with reducing energy bills, there is a simple order
of importance that helps when trying to decide what to do
first:
- reduce the need for energy
- make your use as efficient as possible
- use renewable energy as much as possible
- If fossil fuels have to be used, make it as
efficient as possible
To get you thinking, we have some facts on
these issues:
As we develop policy and practice we hope to bring more and more
useful advice.
Work out your own "Carbon Footprint"
A great pace to start working out what to do is to find out what
impact you are having now: you can work out your own Carbon
Footprint by following this link to the Government's Personal Carbon
Footprint Calculator.
A practical step, of course, is to insulate your home properly!
This will be a real saving for almost everybody who can do it. See
our scheme above for example.
