Health Promotion
Environmental Health Services recognises that it is
exceptionally well placed to add value to its enforcement work by
investing in prevention. "A fence at the top of the cliff is
better than an ambulance at the bottom": it is well-worn but very
true.
The team has a statutory role but always looks for opportunities
to add value.
For example, we have invested time in coaching food
businesses through Safer Food Better Business to help them
understand the law and provide healthier safer food from the
outset.
The team contributes food safety content to the highly
successful "Crucial Crew" events for all year 6 pupils in
Harlow.
Environmental Health Services together with Harlow Primary Care
Trust, have for many years run a successful Award scheme for
caterers in Harlow: follow this link for more information on

The team is also proud to be delivering what we expect to
be the most significant single step forward in public health for a
generation: Smokefree Workplaces became a fact from 1st July
