Collected Weekly
If you live in a low-rise property, you can recycle
all your food waste.
For the weekly food waste collection, the Council provides a
small caddy and a larger container.
If you choose
to use compostable caddy liners, they are available from
supermarkets and most will carry this logo or you can use
newspaper. Please do not use ordinary plastic bags. The small caddy
is designed to go on the kitchen worktop for easy storage.
|
 |
- Step 1. Put any food scraps into the small
caddy.
- Step 2. When it is full transfer the contents
(and the liner or newspaper) into the larger container. If you
use a caddy liner please tie it up.
- Step 3. Put out the larger container on your
collection day by 7am.

|
|
The larger container has a lockable lid, which means it can be
kept outdoors. Even if you have a small amount of food waste please
put the container out every week.
TOP TIP - You may like to put a sheet of newspaper in
the bottom of the larger container.
TOP TIP - During the cold weather, you may like to put a
drop of oil in the bottom of your caddy to stop food freezing to
the bottom. When food is frozen to the bottom, it can sometimes
cause problems with emptying.

What happens to your food waste?
Your food waste will be sent to an
in-vessel composting plant. In-vessel composting works in a similar
way to garden compost bins except that it works much faster because
the temperature, air and moisture are closely controlled.
Home Composting
Please also consider home composting as this
is the most beneficial thing you can do for the
environment. Visit www.recyclenow.com/compost
