Local Development Framework
The Local Development Framework (LDF) is the name given to the
new system of Development Plans introduced by the Planning and
Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. The new system introduces a
suite of changes to planning policy and will eventually replace
existing Structure and Local Plans.
The LDF will set out our policies for meeting the community's
economic, environmental and social aims for the future, where this
affects the development and use of land. The intention of the LDF
is to promote a proactive approach to managing development and
streamline the local planning system.
Rather than a single plan, the LDF takes the form of a
portfolio of documents:
- Local Development Documents comprising Development Plan
Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents.
- a Local Development Scheme sets out details of each of the
Local Development Documents will be produced - timescale and
arrangements for production
- the Statement of Community Involvement specifies how
stakeholders and communities are involved
- an Annual Monitoring Report setting out progress in terms of
producing documents and in implementing policies.
We as a local planning authority are responsible for preparing
the portfolio of Local Development Documents (LDDs) that will form
the authority's local development framework. Alongside this
we embrace the new system's aims to involve the public in the
preparation process.
The LDF is an on-going process. To keep you updated with
the new documents we are producing, we will post them here on the
website. We welcome your comments on these as they
develop.
