Housing Strategy and Partnership

 

The Housing Strategy and Partnerships Team assesses the current and future housing needs of the town and is working to ensure that the amount of affordable housing built ensures estate sustainability .  The team works with our partners to make sure that our estates are where people want to live and work. The team does this by working with neighbouring local authorities, partner housing associations, private developers and other stakeholders.

 

The team is also responsible for initiatives with the Private Sector to try and improve conditions for those living in this sector, particularly those who are vulnerable and those who are privately renting accommodation.

 

The Housing Strategy Team has responsibility for the following functions: 

  • Production of the Council's Housing Strategy
  • Monitoring the delivery of the Housing Strategy Action Plan
  • Assessment of the need for affordable housing in the local housing market
  • Managing partnerships with housing associations to ensure the delivery of new affordable housing
  • Working with private housing developers and Planning Officers to ensure the delivery of affordable housing on new private housing developments
  • Contributing to the delivery of the Regional and sub-regional Housing Strategies and other associated regional documents.
  • Providing a housing policy and research function.
  • Developing Private Sector options to meet existing housing need
  • Developing Private Sector engagement through landlord forum
  • Improving conditions for those within the Private Sector
