Window Works

Window Works logo

A project created by Harlow Renaissance and Harlow Council

What is Window Works?

Over the coming months Window Works will be bringing together local people and artists to create a series of vibrant artworks throughout the town centre.

The Window Works project aims to decorate and disguise empty retail units, helping the town centre to become a more colourful and exciting place to shop, work and visit.

Professional artists and local amateur painting groups will create artwork alongside schools, the college, young people and shoppers.

Nostalgia Project

Nostalgia project

A series of images taken from Harlow's archive at the Museum of Harlow.  Every few months the boards will change to display images along new themes, including Housing, Education, Industry and Transport.  The display can be found on the corner of Broad Walk and Eastgate.

Harlow College Project

A series of posters to promote Harlow's sculpture collection designed by Harlow College students.  This display can be found upstairs in the Harvey Centre

Tree of Life

Tree of Life project

This artwork was created by local residents who volunteered their time to work with artist Aña Terry on this installation.  Many of the volunteers are members of local community organisations including 50 Club, Magazine Club and Friends of Harlow Sculpture Collection.

Tree of Life was chosen to symbolise the growth and vitality that Harlow Renaissance plan to achieve within the town.

The style of the design was inspired by First Nation Canadian artist Norval Morisseau whose use of strong colours and patterning created striking images. Creative techniques used in the sessions included yarn painting and textured layering of mixed media creating a vibrant and dynamic image.

Window Jewels

Window Jewels Window

Artists from Creative Space outside the shop.

This artwork was created at a family art workshop by visitors to the town centre supported by Creative Space. Visitors had the opportunity to learn printing techniques to create their own window jewels which were joined together to create these large fabric panels.

Where can I see other Window Works?

Look for more Window Works artwork in the northern part of the town centre over the coming months.
