Forest Funtasia is a new and exciting
project to encourage children and young adults to connect with the
natural world through informal play and activities in a safe and
positive environment, thus giving them the incentive to be part of
their natural heritage’s long term protection.
The
project is based at Parndon Wood Nature
Reserve, which is an ancient Oak and Hornbeam coppice woodland
dating back to the early 11th century and is situated on
the southern side of Harlow.
The Big Lottery funding has given us
the opportunity to bring nature into the lives of local children
and young adults from all of the different communities within
Harlow.
We shall be linking with other
projects around the town such as the Harlow Youth Café and The
Rainbow Young Bus as well as with local schools, libraries and
community groups.
The extended opening hours will
make Parndon Wood Nature Reserve more easily accessible for
children when they need it most, such as, at weekends and during
the school holidays.
The project is aimed at children and
youths being able to drop in on a casual basis and take part in
activities that shall include:
- Themed nature packs
- Self guided trails
- Bug hunting
- Mammal tracking
- Fact -finding
- Orienteering
- Nature themed Arts and Crafts
- Games to play in the woods
- Woodcrafts and much more!
The emphasis is on inspiring and
learning through using our senses and observation skills, but more
importantly, having fun!
