London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Harlow is one of the closest Districts to where the majority of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games events will be held.  This places Harlow in a fantastic position to take advantage of the many opportunities surrounding London 2012.  Harlow Council is working with partners to ensure Harlow achieves a lasting legacy from London 2012.

The Council and partners are currently working towards legacy benefits such as increasing participation in sport and physical activity, promoting healthy lifestyles, employer engagement, image promotion, volunteering, training and apprenticeships, the Cultural Olympiad and Pre Games Training Camps.

Progress to date has included a successful application for Harlow Leisure Zone to be included in the Official Pre Games Training Camp Guide, a visit to Harlow by Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell and a successful Handover Event on 24.08.2008 which was part of national network of coordinated events and received regional press coverage.  A range of successful Cultural Olympiad events have also taken place.
