School visits and outreach

For general information on our schools visits please see our schools sessions overview leaflet, for more detailed information on each of our visits please use the links below.  If you have any specific ideas for or requirements for a visit or would like to have a standard visit adapted for a specific age group please contact Claire by e-mail at claire.hooper@harlow.gov.uk.

  How a museum works  

 

Visits are charged at £1.50 per child for Harlow Schools and £2.30 per child for non-Harlow schools, Teachers and helpers are free.

 

Images of some of the objects used in the visits are available for download at our on-line image archive at http://gallery.nen.gov.uk/gallery1506-e2bn.html .  These images can be used in classroom based activities before and after a visit to the museum.

Teachers Support

The museum runs an informal group which meets once a term to discuss how the museum can help teachers to access the collections, work on joint projects and to offer support and advice.  If you are interested in attending a meeting please contact the museum for more details.

 

Key Stage 3 and 4 teachers are welcome to contact the musuem to discuss their requriments.

 

Teacher inset sessions are also available giving information on aspects of the history of Harlow and how the museum can help you deliver a creative curriculum.  If you would be interested  in attending an inset session please contact Claire for details.

Loan Boxes

Themed sets of objects are available for use in the classroom.  Box themes include Homes, Toys, The Romans, The Tudors, The Victorians, 1950s onwards.  Each box contains a mixture of real and replica artefacts.

 

Boxes are available for hire for a half-term at a small charge.
