Reminiscence
Reminiscence is a way of bringing pleasure, stimulation and
meaning to the lives of older people in care. Using
objects based reminiscence is increasingly recognised as a way of
tapping into the memory of an older person with dementia and as
having the potential to lift depression and improve
communication.
As part of our loans service the museum has a small
collection of object boxes that can be borrowed from the
museum for free. The boxes have been put together
for use by carers working with older people in care or in their own
homes.
- In the home (Box1).
- In the home (Box 2).
- Going out.
- Cooking.
- Make do and mend.
- Aromas of the past.
Each box contains a themed set of items.
Please contact the museum on 01279 454959 to book a box.
Groups from care homes and day centres are welcome to visit the
museum; if you have any specific requiriements, would like to
discuss a museum visit or would like more information on our
reminiscence loans service please contact Claire at claire.hooper@harlow.gov.uk
