Jack
Harlow Youth Councillor

Elected 2008 - 2010

Manifesto Statement

I believe that every child has the right to a voice. If voted in, I’ll ensure that every point, however small, will be put forward. One point I’d argue is more facilities for teenagers.

Sub Group and Responsibilites

Comment Box Co-ordinator – To co-ordinate a team of representatives from each school to collect the comment cards.  To record and monitor issues and process information received.  Need to be organised and a good administrator.  This position will also incorporate attending adult Committee meetings as an  Observer - Responsibility to attend quarterly adult committee meetings (formal), to observe and summarise committee activities and current issues.  To feedback to the full youth council meetings and lead in any youth council issues that may arise.  The two positions will give an overview of current issues from all perspectives.

As a volunteer, I have:

I ran in the elections to become a youth councillor and attended a campaign workshop to aid me with positive propoganda and a general outlay.  I was successful in my running and I now attend an average of a meeting a week as well as those of the sub groups and activities.  These include the youth cafe and my running as a young representative on the Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust.

Contribution to the work of my project and community:

As a member of the youth council I have contributed by representing the views expressed to me by my peers and expressed their points properly and then reporting back with feedback.  We have secured and developed the youth cafe as a place for people to go to.

Relation to personal/career plans:

At current, I have planned to go into a science career, but have considered politics also.  The experiences and skills I have learnt will help me with understanding communication and in a variety of ways.

Achievements:

ASDAN L2 Certificate in Community Volunteering
