Michael
Harlow Youth Councillor

Elected 2007 - 2009

Manifesto Statement

I believe that the youth clubs should be available for all school children.  Public transport for young people should be cheaper and youths should be treated equally in the same way as older people are.

Sub Group and Responsibilities

Housing Representative - Responsibility to attend all relevant meetings and consultations, to receive all information and to disseminate information to subgroup and full youth council meetings.  This position will involve attendance at relevant adult committee meetings as observer:

·        Planning Committee Observer

·        Policy and Resources Committee Observer

·        Environment and community Committee Observer

Responsibility to attend quarterly adult committee meetings (formal), to observe and summarise committee activities and current issues.  To feedback to the full youth council meetings and lead in any youth council issues that may arise.  Will probably involve housing and leisure activities.

Achievements

As a volunteer I have done presentations, contributed to meetings, helped the community and attended Young Peoples’ Day and the Holocaust Memorial.

It has helped me become confident in making young peoples’ voices heard and giving me a better understanding of community issues.

This relates to my personal/career plans as when I leave school I would like to become a P.E. teacher.  The presentation skills I am learning will help me communicate better with others.

Level Two Certificate of Community Volunteering qualification.

Canal Boat Navigation Certificate
