Sophie
Harlow Youth Councillor

Elected 2007 - 2009

Manifesto Statement

I am standing for Harlow Youth Council because I feel that the facilities in Harlow for youth are very poor.  People feel that we are up to no good, but we have nowhere to go.

Sub Group and Responsibilities

Office Co-ordinators – To meet staff support members on a regular basis, distribute post and undertake any tasks as and when required.  To arrange extra support if needed. To receive all information and to disseminate information to full youth council meetings.  This position will also involve attending newsletter meetings to ensure accurate reporting of council issues

As a volunteer, I have:

Helped get funding for the canal boat trip.  I have been awarded the Princess Diana Memorial Award for community service.  I have joined the Youth Cafe subgroup.

Contribution to the work of my project and community:

The canal boat trip enabled us to learn about working with the disabled.  Cafe Youth is a cafe designed to keep young people off the streets.

Relation to personal/career plans:

When I'm older, I want to work with disabled children for a career.  All my experience in the youth council will help with this.
