Beauty treatments and premises

Harlow Council inspects most premises offering beauty treatments from time to time and can offer advice on compliance with health and safety requirements.

Acupuncture, Tattooing, Ear/Body Piercing, Semi-Permanent Skin-Colouring and/or Electrolysis registration

If you offer acupuncture, tattooing, ear/body piercing, semi-permanent skin-colouring and/or electrolysis in Harlow you must be registered with Harlow Council. If you work from premises, they must also be registered. Once registered, you will be issued with a certificate of registration.

The purpose of registration is to ensure that basic health and safety standards are maintained and that local byelaws are complied with.

Eligibility criteria

You must provide specific information including details of your premises and any previous convictions for practicing without a licence in this field.

No provision in legislation

Will Tacit consent apply? No. It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from the us within a reasonable period, please contact us.

Failed applications and redress

For failed application and licence holder redress please contact an Advisor at Contact Harlow in the first instance. If a registration is suspended or cancelled the registration holder may appeal to the magistrates court.
