Time is running out to correct your Council Tax!
Essex districts, borough, county and city councils have joined forces for the first time to urge people to check they are paying the right amount, as new cutting edge data-checking software comes into force.
All households are required to pay Council Tax, and there are a number of discounts and exemptions available to support residents, such as for example Single Person Discount, with recipients able to claim a twenty five per cent discount on their bill. These exemptions are however open to abuse or error, and while this is a national issue, the estimated cost across Essex is £10million. Money that should be spent directly on services.
If your living circumstances or income have changed and you haven't declared it, you could be committing fraud without even knowing it. New technology will show us exactly who is responsible, so act now before you're caught out!
The software system allows Essex councils to share and match data records which will highlight potential errors for investigation.
