Lost dogs

We collect stray dogs that we find on the street or dogs that are reported to us, during office hours.

Dogs in our care are kept in licensed kennels for 7 days. If the dog is not reclaimed by an owner within the 7 days, it will be sent to an animal charity for rehoming.

Report a lost dog

If you lose your dog, you should contact us to report it.

We keep a register of all stray dogs, and may be able to reunite you with your dog if someone has found it.

Once we receive your report, we will check our register, to see if someone has found it.

If someone has found your dog, we will arrange for you to be reunited.

If your dog is not on our register, we will contact you once someone reports it as found.

Report a found dog

If you find a dog, you should return the dog to its owner if you know who it is.

If you don’t know who the owner is, you need to report the dog to us.

We keep a register of all stray dogs, and may be able to reunite the dog with its owner.

If you find the dog during office hours and secure it, we can come and collect it from you.

Reclaiming your lost dog

If someone reports that they have found your dog, we will contact you to let you know.

You have to pay the council’s fees and kennelling costs, and any vet’s bills for emergency treatment.

To pay the fees, you need to call us on 01279 446655.

Once you have paid the fees, we will arrange for the dog to be delivered to your home address (Harlow area only) at the earliest opportunity up until 4pm.
