Recycling and non-recycling collections disrupted on 4 January
2010
Recycling collections by many councils were
delayed on Monday 4 January 2010 due to temporary restrictions
at the Rainham recycling plant following the severe
weather.
Harlow is amongst the councils that use the
plant, which is dealing with a backlog of deliveries therefore
causing delays. The plant should re-open as normal on 5
January 2010.
Harlow Council and Veolia have made
arrangements for additional collections to be carried out to
ensure that as many recycling collections take
place today as possible.
The following areas did not receive a
recycling collection on 4 January 2010 due to the plant
restrictions. These collections should take place on 5 January
2010:
Parts of Westfield
Half of Rushes Mead
Five Acres
Purford Green
Tilegate House
Fountain Farm
Primrose Field
Oak End
Upper Hook
Tye Green Village
Fortunes
Brays Mead
Due to the earlier closure of the A414
some non-recycling collections were disrupted on 4 January 2010 as
there were delays in taking materials to the landfill site. As a
result the following areas did not receive a non-recycling
collection today. These collections should take place on 5 January
2010.
Lodge Hall
Gibb Croft
Readings
Sakins Croft
Wharley Hook
Half of Radburn Close
Half of the Rundells
The Meadows
Hawthorns
Updates on the collections
will appear here.
The severe weather during the lead up to
Christmas also affected Harlow’s waste collections and some areas
are still experiencing delays with collections as a result.
Councillor Tony Hall, Chairman of the
Council’s Environment & Community Committee, explains: “We wish
to apologise to residents whose collections may have been affected.
The severe weather before Christmas has had a knock on effect on
some collections. The Council and Veolia worked hard to ensure that
as many collections as possible were done, with crews working
longer hours. The icy conditions made it impossible for some
collections to take place and in some areas, where ice has affected
different parts of estates worse than others, it has not helped for
some residents to see their neighbours’ waste collected while
theirs has not. In turn this means a crew has to return to make a
few isolated collections.
“We are now planning revised collections and
the picture is changing by the day, so we are doing our best to
catch up on areas where collections are still experiencing delays
due to the knock-on effect. We continue to monitor the current cold
snap of weather. I would point out that there are a total of 13
crews and vehicles covering 35,000 properties five days a week 52
weeks a year.”
“Residents can continue to stay up to date on
our website or by phoning Contact Harlow on (01279) 446655.”
