Changes to bulky waste collections to improve recycling
Harlow Council is changing its bulky waste
collections to reduce the amount of waste from the town going to
landfill.
From Thursday 17 April 2008 a new two-day a
week electrical goods recycling service will be introduced and the
heavy squad collections will operate for the remaining three days a
week. Bookings will continue to be free.
Kathy May, Harlow Council’s Street Scene and
Waste Strategy Manager, said: “By making these changes we will
reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and encourage high
recycling performance in the town. People may have to wait longer
for heavy squad collections but I hope they appreciate this is
because higher priority will be given to recycling, which is better
for the environment.”
Heavy squad collections will take place from
Monday to Wednesday and electrical goods collected Thursdays and
Fridays. Fridge Freezers will continue to be picked up
everyday.
Bookings can be made by phoning (01279)
446655. Electrical goods, which can be collected are larger items
including washing machines, dishwashers and television sets.
Smaller electrical items can be recycled through the kerbside
"TextBac" scheme collected by ECCO.
