Harlow Council Makes Green Pledge
Last Wednesday (5 June) Harlow Council
publicly signed the Nottingham Declaration - a pledge to tackle
climate change locally.
The Council agreed to sign up to the
declaration at the end of January and used its Environment Week to
officially sign the commitment in the reception of the Civic
Centre.
Before signing the declaration the Council
launched a discounted loft and wall insulation scheme for
homeowners, showcased a solar panel system and gave out free low
energy light bulbs as part of its Environment Week
initiative.
The Nottingham Declaration is a voluntary
pledge to address the issues of climate change. It is a statement
of commitment for the Council to make to its community.
The declaration will encourage the Council to
look at reducing its greenhouse emissions from the purchasing of
goods and services, transport and vehicles, waste production and
disposal and energy use, as well as work with partners and the
community to address the causes and impacts of climate change.
