Tributes paid to Councillor Peck
Tributes are being paid to Harlow Councillor
Greg Peck who passed away in Princess Alexandra Hospital on Friday
4 April 2008 after a long illness.
Councillor Peck was Harlow Council’s Chairman
in 2006/7 and during his time launched the town’s 60th
Anniversary celebrations. He also fundraised £3250 for his chosen
charity the Day Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he spent
time being treated for leukemia.
Councillor Tony Durcan, Joint Council Leader,
said: “Greg was a passionate councillor who worked very hard for
the people he represented. We will all very much miss him. He was a
close friend and I will miss him greatly. Despite being ill during
his time as Chairman he still attended many events and represented
the town. He launched the 60th anniversary celebrations,
which will always been remembered in the town. Our thoughts are
with his family and friends at this sad time.”
Councillor Chris Millington, Joint Council
Leader, said: “Greg had fought courageously against his illness and
I am saddened to hear that he has passed away. He was a
kind-hearted person and will be missed by the Council and local
community.”
Councillor Andrew Johnson, Leader of the
Conservative Group, said: “My prayers are with Greg’s family and
many friends. Greg was an asset to the Council and he will be
sorely missed. Not only did he do so much as a councillor, as
Chairman he worked hard to raise the profile of Harlow in its
60th anniversary year.”
Greg served as a Harlow Councillor between
2000 and 2008. He was elected as a Labour Councillor for Harlow
Common in 2004. He was Chair of the Licensing Committee in
2006.
Greg lived in Peterswood and leaves behind a
widow, children and grandchildren. No details are available at this
time about the funeral.
