Essex scheme to keep Harlow's elderly safe
Essex County Council, working in partnership
with Harlow Council, is pledging to offer telecare
services to Harlow's elderly.
The equipment will be supplied by Essex
County Council to local people over the age of 85 free of
charge for the first 12 months, after which the user will only
have to pay the Careline connection charges. The alarm units
will be connected to Harlow Council's Careline Service, which
offers peace of mind to elderly people who will be able to
access assistance at the press of a button, 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year.
To support this offer Essex County Council has
pledged an extra £4million in funding for telecare services for
those over 85 across the county.
Chairman of Harlow Council's Housing
Committee, Councillor Lee Dangerfield said:
"This extra funding is excellent news and will
help elderly people to continue to live independently where
possible, whilst giving them the support and reassurance that help
can be summoned immediately should they need it.
"Harlow Council is committed to helping people
enjoy their years in retirement and this scheme ensures that
elderly people have a choice about whether they wish to stay living
independently."
