Manufacturing Excellence Club Launched in Harlow

A new club to help manufacturing companies in Essex expand and share knowledge has been launched by Harlow Council and LSW UK LTD – a mechanical and plant engineering company.

The club aims to develop a programme of events in order to transfer knowledge and expertise that will assist manufacturing companies from around the County to maintain their competitiveness and/or expand.  The first session held in July focused on how to improve ways of working to increase productivity and delegates discussed how they would want the club to develop having heard how other clubs run in other areas.

Heather Lonsdale, Company Secretary of LSW UK Limited commented: “Having attended other Manufacturing Club meetings in other areas of East Anglia and seen the benefits to their members in sharing issues and in some cases resources I was keen to launch one in Essex. Having had a great deal of contact with Ellena Mould, Economic Development Officer,  at Harlow Council through the West Essex Innovation Network, I immediately thought that we could work successfully in partnership to get the Club for Essex off the ground. Ellena and her team have been an invaluable resource in contacting suitable companies and liaising with them.”

Councillor Eleanor Macy, Chair of the Council’s Environment & Community Committee, says: “The Council is keen to support this sector as part of its Regeneration Strategy around economic development and its corporate priority of a prosperous community. Although large scale manufacturing activity has diminished in the UK, by reaching out to other Manufacturing Companies in Essex and the border Counties, we hope to generate an ideal mix of companies from the region. The delegates attending the event were enthused and welcomed this initiative.  It is envisaged that members of this club will drive the content of the events according to their needs. This initiative is a best practice example in Public/Private Sector partnership for the benefit of the business community.”
