As part of National Bike Week (14 - 22 June 2008) Harlow
Council has organised a range of cycling-related
activities to help local people rediscover
the fun of cycling.
Harlow Council, through events such as Bike
Week, is committed to encouraging local people to adopt
healthier lifestyles, enjoy the environment and reduce traffic
congestion. Harlow, with its network of dedicated cycle
tracks, is probably one of the best towns in the country for
cycling, so why not beat the spiralling fuel costs and take
advantage of this cheap and healthy mode of transport.
Harlow Council Sports Development Officer
said: "Summer is the perfect time to put away the car
keys, get
out in the fresh air and get some exercise, Bike Week
events provide the opportunity for those who haven't cycled
for a while to join in some organised rides. Hopefully it will also
encourage more regular cyclists to try something a little more
challenging."
Bike Week CTC volunteer John Curry said:
“Plenty of parents have forgotten how much fun cycling was as a
child. We want this year’s Bike Week to revive those memories and
act as a catalyst for families to spend more quality time
together.“
