New Face joins Playhouse Theatre
A new General Manager with
extensive experience in both commercial and public sector funded
theatres has started work at Harlow Council’s Playhouse
theatre.
Paul Griffiths joins the
Council with the remit to take the Playhouse on to its next level
of success and to continue to strengthen the strong ties that exist
with the local community. Paul has worked in the theatre business
continuously for around 12 years, since leaving university with a
drama degree. He has worked as a general/theatre manager
across the country in both commercial and public funded
operations.
Paul’s previous roles have been
at The Co-operative Arts Theatre, Nottingham, Theatre Royal
Stratford East, Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, White Rock
Theatre, Hastings, Alexandra Theatre Birmingham and Bridge House
Theatre, Warwick.
Paul has good track record of
securing funding for initiatives and increasing income and turnover
at theatres. He has also led two teams to Best Theatre Team awards
for delivering summer youth projects. He was also responsible for
the successful reopening of the Theatre Royal Stratford East after
its major redevelopment.
Council Joint Leader,
Councillor Tony Durcan, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Paul
to Harlow. He brings with him extensive experience in both the
commercial and public funded theatre industry, which will be
invaluable in taking the Playhouse forward. The Playhouse is an
important Council service and this appointment underlines that
fact.”
Council Joint Leader,
Councillor Chris Millington, said: “Paul joins the theatre at a
busy time with an action packed programme of events taking place
for the Spring season and plans being made for the Summer. The
appointment is part of the Council’s commitment to providing a
first class Playhouse theatre and I know he will ensure that the
facility continues to go from strength to strength.”
