Recycling Rates Soar
Harlow Council recorded a significant
improvement in the town's kerbside recycling figures for January
2008.
These latest figures see a continuing trend
towards a greater commitment to recycling from local residents. The
amount of kerbside recycling collected in January 2008 was a
substantial 596.84 tonnes, an increase of over 87 tonnes (17%)
compared to the same period last year.
Councillor Eleanor Macy, chair of the
Council's Environment and
Community Committee said:
"These recycling statistics give a clear
indication that the people of Harlow are embracing recycling, and
committing to helping the environment.
Harlow Council has been proactive in promoting
and encouraging town-wide participation in the reduction
of waste and alleviating the amount of waste sent to
landfill, with some innovative campaigns such as the Together
We Can.... initiative.
There are still improvements that can be
made, but these figures prove that we
are making excellent progress, and we’d like to thank the
residents of Harlow for their participation"
You can get involved in recycling by collecting blue boxes
and white bags from the Civic Centre in the town centre. If you're
in a flat, you should have a blue bin for recycling.
