Safer Harlow Awards - the search is on for
Harlow’s heroes and heroines
The Safer Harlow Partnership is looking for
outstanding individuals and organisations that have made a
difference in making Harlow a safer place.
The Partnership is encouraging local people
and groups in the town to nominate an individual or an organisation
for its annual Safer Harlow Awards.
There are a number of categories that all
require someone to have made a special effort or gone the extra
mile to make the town or their area safer. For those selected as
winners there will be a presentation ceremony at the Civic Centre
later this year with each winner receiving an award and
certificate.
Nominations can be made by calling Terry
Curtis on 01279 446186, emailing terry.curtis@harlow.gov.uk
or online at http://www.harlow.gov.uk.
The closing date for nominations is 28th September
2007. The awards ceremony will be held later in the year.
The Categories selected for nomination
are:-
An individual who has shown outstanding
enthusiasm and commitment to making people feel safer
in Harlow
An individual who has demonstrated and
outstanding ability to support a victim/s of crime.
An individual who has taken real steps to help
tackle crime in Harlow either by their own actions of by leading a
group.
A project that has demonstrated real
innovation in tackling crime in Harlow, either by prevention or
detection.
A project that has taken innovative
steps to improve the environment in a way which deters crime and
enables people to feel safer.
A school which has demonstrated real
innovation and/or commitment to using education to encourage pupils
to understand their rights and responsibilities.
The awards are being administered by Harlow
Council, one of the organisations which sit on the Safer Harlow
Partnership.
Councillor Tony Durcan, Joint Leader of the
Council, says: “Various projects in Harlow to tackle crime and
disorder have been achieved, not just by the Council or its
partners, but also by local people and smaller organisations taking
the lead. Those who have gone out their way to make Harlow a safer
place deserve recognition and these awards are about doing just
that. “
Councillor Chris Millington, Joint Leader of
the Council, says: “These awards are about promoting the fact we
can all do something to make the town a better place. If you know
someone in your street or any organisation that has made a stand in
the community then let us know so they can be rewarded.”
