Skate Park gets Green Light
A state-of-the-art skate park for the town’s
young people has moved a step closer after planning permission was
agreed by Harlow Council last night.
The project is due for completion in early
2008 and is costing around £300,000. The money will come from the
Council’s capital programme and a grant of £57,500 from Sport
England.
The new facility will be located in the Town
Park, off First Avenue and will replace the existing temporary
skating facility. The park will cover 808 square metres and be made
of concrete. It will have floodlights, CCTV and will be fenced
along one side. The park will include many features requested by
local skaters.
Councillor Eleanor Macy, Chair of the
Council’s Environment & Community Committee, says: “A permanent
skate park is wanted by young people. Last night’s decision moves
the new skate park a step closer. Young skaters have been involved
in the design, which includes many of the features requested by
them. This means the town will get a facility, which meets the
needs of the people who will be using it.
“A common concern of local residents is that
there are not enough facilities for young people, so a new
permanent skate park facility will help meet that concern. The new
facility replaces the temporary skate park, which has wooden ramps.
This facility has suffered from heavy use and regular vandalism of
the surrounding area. The new facility will be made of concrete,
partially fenced and covered by CCTV.”
The park will be built by Freestyle Skateparks
who worked with local skaters on the design.
