Chairman of Harlow Council's Environment and Community Committee, Cllr Tony Hall said:

"Harlow has a great track record of producing outstanding athletes and sportspeople, from World Champions and Olympic medalists to professional footballers and these bursaries give the next generation of potential stars the help they need to fulfill that potential.

"Harlow Council is keen to work with agencies, such as sport:exl, to exploit the excellent facilities and environment available locally, to help people to get involved and for as many people as possible to excel in sporting activities. It is also hoped that some of the young people receiving grants will be able to go on and represent their country at the London 2012 Olympics".
