Council to mark St George's Day
St George’s Day (Wednesday 23 April) is being
marked in Harlow with a traditional afternoon tea party organised
by Harlow Council.
Local organisations and community
representatives have been invited to the party, which takes place
at Harlowbury Chapel in Old Harlow. Afternoon tea is a much-loved
English tradition and the spread will include pots of tea,
sandwiches, scones with fresh cream and sponge cake.
In the evening councillors will be at the Hare
Public House to take part in a national toast to England and St
George. The flag of St. George will be flying outside the Civic
Centre on Wednesday.
The Council announced its intention to mark
the occasion at its Full Council Meeting on 27 March. The Council
has also written to all schools and pubs in the town to encourage
them to hold events to help mark the occasion.
