Tree coppicing work at Latton Wood

Harlow Council will be starting the first part of a five-year management plan for Latton Woodfrom Wednesday 10th June 2009.

In 2008 a programme of works began to restore a number of veteran trees in the wood, which are now showing good signs of regeneration. The Council's biodiversity team can now look at managing the plantation of sections of the wood.

Following discussions with the Forestry Commission, Harlow Council were granted a felling license to begin thinning selected areas of the wood to improve conditions for natural regeneration of native deciduous trees such as oak and ash, and reduce the more numerous conifers currently dominating the area. The resulting timber will be processed as a sustainable fuel source.

Signs will be placed around the wood informing the public of the felling operation. The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents during these works.
