Sam's Place

Sam’s Place, based at Harlow Fields School and College, provides a wide range of opportunities for social interaction and development for children and young people with a disability. The service welcomes children and young people age 8 to 19 years of age who live in Harlow and the West Essex Area.

How do people get referred and assessed for Sam’s Place services?

Referrals can be made direct to Sam' Place by social care, schools, other agencies or by parents and/or carers. These services are in high demand and there may sometimes be a waiting list depending on the child or young person's requirements.

Who runs the service?

Harlow Council delivers the service in partnership with Essex County Council and Action For Children. Staff have a wide range of experience and qualifications and attend regular Child Protection; First Aid and Epilepsy training. All Staff and volunteers have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which replaced the CRB check. Sam's Place is Ofsted registered.

What services are available at Sam’s Place?

Planned activity programmes are put together by the children and young people themselves with input from staff and volunteers. Programmes include cooking and healthy eating projects; art and craft; gardening; physical and sporting activities; music workshops; positive citizenship activities and a variety of themed activities.

Sam's Place staff are also sometimes able to take children and young people out on short trips to participate in social activities away from the school.
