Waste is so last year!
It’s estimated that in each UK home about £1,200-worth of clothing lies forgotten and unworn. If you no longer want a particular item or outfit someone else probably will. Unwanted clothes can be re-sold, rejuvenated, re-used or recycled!
Love your Clothes has lots of useful information on getting the most out of your clothes including laundering and repair – find workshops near you on their website loveyourclothes.org.uk
Clothing that is in good condition can be reused by:
- Donating to charity
- Selling online on sites such as eBay, Grumtree and Preloved
- Selling at a bootsale
- Holding a swishing event where you can swap items with friends
- Depositing at a textile bank
Clothing and other textiles are not accepted in Harlow Council recycling wheelie bin (or blue box). Please do not dispose of clothing in the non-recycling wheelie bin (or purple sacks).
Harlow Council are working with ASTCO to increase the number of textile bank sites in the town.
All materials collected from the clothing banks are re-used, with textiles providing reusable clothing for the UK and third world countries by doing so also helping reduce waste from going into landfill.
To report a full or damaged bank, please call ASTCO on 01507 466159.
