Street collections

If you want to collect money or sell goods for charity on the street, you will need a permit.

To apply for a permit, you need to:

  • complete the application form (pdf)
  • send the application form to the Licensing Team at least one month before the proposed collection date
  • evidence of your public liability insurance
  • letter from the charity giving permission for you to collect
  • letter from the centre or store manager (collection in the Water Gardens or Harvey Centre only)

There is no fee for this permit

You are not allowed to let people under 16 act as collectors.

The street collection permit will be valid for a specific area for one to two days. We will only issue one permit per day for any particular area.

Within a month after your collection, you need to send us a statement showing:

  • the total amount you raised
  • the amounts collected in each bucket/box
  • a list of collectors
  • any expenses incurred
  • certification from a qualified accountant.

House to house collections

If you want to collect money or goods for charity in a house to house collection, you will need a permit.

To apply for a permit, you need to:

  • complete the application form (pdf)
  • send the application form to the Licensing Team at least one month before the proposed collection date
  • letter from the charity giving permission for you to collect

There is no fee for this permit

You are not allowed to let people under 16 act as collectors.

House to house collection permits can be granted for any period up to one year.
