Harlow Playhouse announce plans for recovery

Published date

Following a lengthy planning process and after the publication of government guidance, Harlow Playhouse can announce plans to reopen its facility in a safe and sensible way.

The plans detailed below are measured and take into account the safety of staff and visitors, ongoing planned improvements to the facility and the viability of delivering certain functions of the usual service operation.

Beginning Monday 27 July studio spaces will reopen and their use will be subject to partners providing appropriate risk assessments.

In the week starting 1 September we will reopen our café and bar spaces. For the safety of all there will be changes to how the spaces will be accessed. More information will follow.

At the present time we will be postponing all performances that were scheduled to take place in September and October. As before we will contact you to ask you if you would consider exchanging your original payment to either the revised date, a credit voucher, a donation to support us at this time or if you wish to have refund.

To see our rescheduled shows please visit the Playhouse website. Our team have lots of audiences to contact so please be patient whilst we contact you individually to deal with your booking.

We of course understand that donating, exchanging, or accepting credit is not possible for some - these extraordinary times are impacting everyone differently. However if you can help us, we would be immeasurably grateful. Your support would really make a difference to our ability to bring the arts to the entire community.

We would like to thank all our customers for their support at this time, particularly those who have donated directly to our ring fenced fund to support artistes and arts organisations of this town.

With regards to this year’s pantomime production, we are still trying our hardest to make sure Cinderella can go to the ball - and will provide our customers with an update week starting 3 August.

Rory Davies Artistic Director, said

“We are extremely grateful for the continued support of our patrons during this difficult period and I thank all of those who have continued to engage with our digital programme and donated to support the arts. The team and I at Harlow Playhouse are delighted that we will be able to start welcoming patrons and user groups back to Harlow Playhouse in a safe and sensible way.

“We will always take decisions on what is best for the safety of our staff and patrons. Whilst we understand and welcome that socially distant performances can provisionally take place from 1 August inside the auditoriums, continuing with the September and October programme at this time would not have been a viable option for us.

“We hope our patrons will understand our decision and continue to support us when we can get back up and running at full capacity again. Our phased reopening is an important step towards bringing back performances when it is safe and viable to do so.”
