Parndon Wood Nature Reserve and Harlow Town Park have once again been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as two of the very best green spaces in the world.
Both parks are among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.
Parndon Wood Nature Reserve has now won the award for the 10th time in a row with the Town Park celebrating its third consecutive Green Flag Award.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces and is a benchmark for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and internationally. It is a sign to the public that green spaces boast the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities.
Commenting on the awards, Councillor Eugenie Harvey, Portfolio Holder for Community and Wellbeing, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that both Parndon Wood and our Town Park have received Green Flag Awards for the 10th and third years in a row.
“We know how much quality green spaces matter to our residents and visitors, and these awards celebrate the dedication that goes into maintaining them both to such a high standard. Parndon Wood and the Town Park are both hugely popular with residents of Harlow and the surrounding area, and that is down to the excellent management of both sites.
“I must say that although the Town Park is maintained to this high standard by the Council and HTS, and Parndon Wood by Harlow Council and local organisation ECCO, it’s the fantastic contribution made by our teams of local volunteers who give us support that makes these awards even more special. The Green Team, Town Park Volunteers and the Friends of Pets’ Corner give up their own time to turn up, rain or shine, and put in a lot of hard work to keep both spaces looking beautiful. It’s a testament to Harlow’s community spirit that we have seen the Green Flag Awards return to Parndon Wood and the Town Park for another year.”
