House in multiple occupation licence

Your House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licence is valid for one year.

You will need to renew it at least one month before it expires.

We will email you a reminder to let you know when it is time to renew your licence.

To renew your licence you need to:

If we ask you for it, you will also need to provide a:

  • gas safety certificate less than 12 months old (if there is a gas supply)
  • domestic periodic inspection report for the electrical system that is less than 5 years old
  • fire alarm test certificate that is less than 5 years old (where appropriate)

Once we receive your application, we will email you a copy of your renewed licence.

Fees

Mandatory licence: £250 (reduced £195)

You will be eligible for a reduced fee if you can provide evidence of a valid membership of a recognised Landlord Accreditation scheme (the National Residential Landlords Association).

The fee covers applications for up to 6 bedrooms. If you need a licence for more than 6 bedrooms, we will also charge an extra hourly rate of £65 for each additional bedroom over 6.
