Keep Safe

Keep Safe is a free scheme, set up by Harlow Council and Essex Police, to help people feel safer when they are out in Harlow.

Keep Safe places such as shops, libraries and businesses, will let you use a telephone or make a call on your behalf if you get into distress.

This might be if you:keep safe logo

  • lose your phone
  • lose your wallet
  • feel ill or unsafe

When you join the scheme you will be given your own key fob to put the name and number of someone who can be contacted should you need them.

Keep Safe key fobs can be used in Harlow and some other Essex towns.

The Keep Safe places have stickers in their windows to help identify that they are part of the scheme.

Any type of business, including taxi drivers, can be part of the scheme.

If an older person is in a situation where they feel distressed they may come to your business for help, upon seeing the Keep Safe sticker.

If they show you their Keep Safe key fob, you need to:

  • ask them if they would like to use the telephone - or if they would like you to make the call for them
  • telephone the number on the key fob and explain that the person who has come to your business would like their assistance
