Harlow Council has continued to create new parking spaces across the town’s neighbourhoods by removing unused and under occupied garages in housing estates with 475 new spaces set to be delivered by the end of the year.
Parking is a significant challenge across housing estates, which is why as part of the council’s mission to ‘renew our neighbourhoods’, it has invested more than £1.6 million into creating hundreds of new parking spaces, with hundreds more to come.
Since July alone, the council has created a further 74 residential parking spaces in Guilfords, Joyners Field, Tilbury Mead and Quarry Spring and an additional 37 parking spaces in Carters Mead, Great Plumtree and Woodcroft. It has also created 10 residential parking spaces in Longbanks and Northbrooks.
Works are in progress to create 58 residential parking spaces in Collins Meadow, Halling Hill and Herons Wood. With another 119 parking spaces also in progress to be created in Barley Croft, Fullers Mead, Rivermill and Vicarage Wood. These are due to be completed by Christmas.
The council will continue the programme in the New Year as it ramps up its work to deliver on the missions it has set out. The programme represents the most significant action the council has taken to address parking challenges in a number of years.
Commenting on the programme, Councillor David Carter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:
“The lack of parking spaces and inconsiderate parking is one of the most complained about issues in our estates. Through the great work our Garage Project team are doing, we are creating hundreds of new spaces across the town in direct response to what our housing estates desperately need. Whilst this won’t deal with every issue, this is a major improvement programme which is part of our mission to renew our neighbourhoods and we will continue to ramp up this programme into the new year to deliver even more.”
