Council marks D-Day with special event

On Thursday 6 June, Harlow Council marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The day began with a proclamation being read from the balcony of the Civic Centre by town crier Patrick Arnold, which talked about the selfless sacrifice those who were involved in the operation made for our freedom.

Later in the day, a special event was held in Playhouse Square which featured singing, dancing and activities for kids. The evening also saw poetry and readings from the chair of the council, Andrew Johnson, as well as council officers and veterans, and a beacon lighting ceremony took place as part of beacons being lit across the country.

If you couldn’t make it and want to watch it, there’s a video of the final part of the event on the council’s Facebook page.
