The performance of Harlow’s bin collections continues to improve with the number of missed collections dropping for the third month in a row.
Regular reports go to the council’s cabinet on how different services are performing. Bin collections are showing a strong and improved performance over the last few months since the summer.
In the most recent performance report going to Cabinet on 10 December the number of reported missed collections per 100,000 collections was 70. For October 99.9% of bin collections across the town were completed without any issues. The missed bin figure has reduced every month since July when it hit 107. The target for good performance is under 90.
The improved performance has been welcomed by Councillor Nicky Purse, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability. She said:
“The quality and reliability of the bin collection service is so important as it affects every single household in the town. This is why we continue to work closely with our waste partner Veolia to ensure we are providing our residents with an efficient and high-performing service. I would like to thank everyone involved in this joint effort to turn around performance. There can be lots of different reasons why collections are missed, but we will continue to work hard to resolve any issues and to make the service residents receive better.
“As we come up to a busy time of year, I’d like to thank the bin workers for the work they do all year round to empty Harlow’s bins with close to an amazing 4.5 million collections completed this year! Christmas always sees an increase in rubbish and residents can help by putting the right things in the right bins and where possible reuse items or try to use an alternative that is recyclable.”
It is important that missed collections are reported to the council so these can be put right quickly. Missed collections can be reported to the council at https://selfserve.harlow.gov.uk/en
Collection dates are revised over the Christmas and new year period, and bookable services will be suspended during this time. There will be no green waste service collections from 23 December 2024 to 6 January 2025.
