Published date

Councillor Joel Charles, Deputy Leader of Harlow Council, said:

“Harlow Council is shocked and deeply saddened to hear that Essex MP Sir David Amess has passed away from his injuries following an incident that took place at his constituency surgery earlier today. He was a kind and committed public servant who championed Essex in Parliament.

“Our thoughts are with Sir David’s family, friends and staff. We send our heartfelt condolences to them all.

“No one who stands as a politician should lose their life in such horrific circumstances, especially when they are in a role that is focused on standing up for the best interests of the community they serve.

“We stand united with Essex councils, first responders and all those on the front line committed to keeping the public safe in condemning this act of violence against a public servant.”

As a mark of respect the flags outside Harlow Civic Centre are flying at half mast.
